This morning President Trump sent out a tweet calling for a contest to see which news outlet should receive his Fake News Trophy. It came on a day when he made his own fake news in a ceremony honoring Native Americans and a day when it was reported that a fake news organization used a fake reporter to try to lure The Washington Post into reporting a fake story about Alabama's GOP Senate candidate Ray Moore.
Quite a day for fake news!
Here's Trump's tweet:
Now, of course if such a contest was held without Fox it would be invalid, since Fox is the true fake news network, considering that it's nothing more than the PR arm of the GOP and the Trump administration.
So then, after he sent out such a Presidential tweet, Trump met with some Native American World War II vets to honor their service as "code talkers." He took the occasion to once again call Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) "Pocahontas." Apparently, he considers that name to be a slur of some kind, since he despises Warren.
John Norwood, general secretary of the Alliance of Colonial Era tribes, said Trump's nickname for Warren "smacks of racism."
"The reference is using a historic American Indian figure as a derogatory insult and that's insulting to all American Indians," he said, adding that Trump should "stop using our historical people of significance as a racial slur against one of his opponents."
Very Presidential, Trump. Makes you proud.
Meanwhile, this morning The Washington Post reported that a woman approached the newspaper with a dramatic -- and false -- tale about Moore. After carefully fact-checking the story, The Post did not publish it, challenged the woman with evidence that she had lied, and she then disappeared. The paper said it was now checking to determine if there was a connection between the outfit that hired her and Trump and Moore allies. Apparently it was all a sting effort intended to demonstrate that The Post, which broke the original Moore scandal story, was out to get the judge and was publishing fake news.
So after all of this, guess who should win Trump's fake Fake News Trophy?
My vote is your president, Donald Trump.
