Steal Base, Steel a Taco

That's not a typo.

If you've been watching the MLB playoffs, you've seen the ads. If a player steals a base during a playoff game, everyone in America can run to their local Taco Bell and "steal" a free taco.

Sounds like a great deal, especially if you like Taco Bell tacos, which I must admit can be quite tasty.

But there appears to be a slight problem.

It was reported today that a Taco Bell customer found a metal shaving in one of the chain's menu items, prompting the company to remove 2.3 million pounds of seasoned beef from restaurants in 21 states.

Yikes!

That's why I changed the headline above to more accurately reflect what at least one customer found when biting into his Taco treat.

Gotta hand it to Taco Bell, though. One customer reports finding one metal shaving in the food and the company trashes 2.3 million pounds of product. The company serves 290 million pounds of seasoned beef in a year.

“As soon as we received the first consumer complaint,” said Taco Bell boss Julie Masino in a press release, “we immediately acted to remove the product from the affected restaurants and proactively worked with the supplier to inform the USDA of our steps to protect our guests.”

Kudos to Taco Bell. They did the right thing.

Still, I think, at least for now, I'm gonna skip the free taco if somebody swipes a base during the playoffs. Think I'll wait until a new supply of seasoned beef arrives in their stores. They only cost about a buck, anyway, so I'll just play it safe.
