The Hypocrisy of the Religious Right

The hypocrisy of the religious right is amazing and evident day after day, even as these fundamental Christians claim Donald Trump was "sent by God" to lead them.

When our country was first established, over 240 years ago, the Founding Fathers made certain they didn’t make the same mistakes as their former British rulers by establishing a state religion. This fact is one of many denials made by fundamental Christians who look upon Trump as a messenger from on high.

Despite his being a serial adulterer, compulsive liar, businessman con artist and cheat, they continue to support Trump, insisting he can do no wrong -- despite allegations that would have doomed any other candidate much less someone currently in office.

Politicians have been banished for much less.

But this goes beyond their obsession with Trump.

The right continues to claim America was founded on Judeo-Christian values, denying the fact that separation of church-and-state was a primary motivator in our break from colonial rule.

They point to the phrase “In God We Trust” imprinted on our currency as proof. They further assert that the phrase “under God” in our Pledge of Allegiance is further evidence of our religious heritage, even though the phrase wasn’t in the original pledge, and was only inserted in 1954 during the Eisenhower administration partly due to the “Red Scare” when numerous Americans were persecuted for alleged political alliances.

They ignore our national motto, “E Pluribus Unum”, Out of One Many, as they deny entry into America from those fleeing persecution, poverty and even threats of death. They claim we were chosen by God to be the “New Jerusalem” and "America the Promised Land", while also asserting they are "blessed" by virtue of having the good fortune of being born here.

As the power of the religious right expands, they become bolder and more intolerant. They subvert civil liberties, such as the rights of the LBTGQ population, while claiming they are Constitutionally guaranteed certain rights like access to unlimited firearms; even claiming that is a “God-given right”.

They want to restrict a woman’s right to safe abortion while condemning the system that would provide financial assistance to those in need once a child is born. They condemn other countries for establishing Islamic States, yet they want to establish their own Christian theocracy.

And still, they ignore their own hypocrisy by claiming “divine guidance”.

The truth is, the religious right is nothing more than a dangerous cult, whose followers exhibit the same blind obedience as the Nazis. Their intolerance and persecution has already led to several deaths of those interred in camps as they seek asylum. And yes, these camps are run by for-profit “Christians”, who have an inside track on government contracts for these facilities based upon their connections.

You can accuse me of ignorance, but I have read the Bible. I don’t agree with much of it, since the parts selected were made by powerful men who sought to use this text as a means of maintaining their hold on power. Nor do I cherry-pick select passages to fit my private, bigoted agenda.

The fact the religious right continues to support Trump shows their ignorance, hypocrisy and downright stupidity.

We are no longer “one nation” and certainly not “under God”.

I don't think they missed this. I think they just try to ignore it, because they think there is only one way to live and it's their way! They should look up the word FREEDOM!
