Good News: As Roads, Bridges Collapse, Momentum Builds for Giant Wall

Andy Borowitz satirical author of The Borowitz Report in The New Yorker, nailed it with his recent piece noting that momentum is building for Trump's big wall to keep out all those nasty Mexicans even as the nation's roads and bridges are falling to pieces.

Here's his report. I agree with every word.

"As America’s bridges, roads, and other infrastructure dangerously deteriorate from decades of neglect, there is a mounting sense of urgency that it is time to build a giant wall.

"Across the U.S., whose rail system is a rickety antique plagued by deadly accidents, Americans are increasingly recognizing that building a wall with Mexico, and possibly another one with Canada, should be the country's top priority.

"Harland Dorrinson, the executive director of a Washington-based think tank called the Center for Responsible Immigration, believes that most Americans favor the building of border walls over extravagant pet projects like structurally sound freeway overpasses.

"'The estimated cost of a border wall with Mexico is five billion dollars," he said. "We could easily blow the same amount of money on infrastructure repairs and have nothing to show for it but functioning highways."

"Congress has dragged its feet on infrastructure spending in recent years, but Dorrinson senses growing support in Washington for building a giant border wall. "Even if for some reason we don't get the Mexicans to pay for it, five billion is a steal," he said.

"While some think that America’s declining infrastructure is a national-security threat, Dorrinson strongly disagrees. "If immigrants somehow get over the wall, the condition of our bridges and roads will keep them from getting very far," he said."

Perfect. That way ICE will have an easier time catching and sending back to Mexico or from wherever else they came. Growing potholes will damage their tires, which are probably not in very good shape anyway, and that will slow them down. If we get lucky, a giant sinkhole might open up and swallow their cars, which would make it really easy for ICE to catch them.

It was great, the other day when Trump went to the border to check out the wall prototypes. I love the fact that he is so dedicated to stopping all of those immigrant criminals from entering our country.

I just have one question. How is it that this former model, born Melanija Knavs; [mɛˈlaːnija ˈknaːu̯s], Germanized to Melania Knauss, born in Slovenia, obtained an "Einstein visa"? Isn't that supposed to be reserved for people with extraordinary skills who can make significant contributions to our country? Does being a model qualify her for that?

How is that more valuable than the doctor from Michigan who at last report faced deportation? A green card holder who emigrated from Poland 40 years ago, those dedicated ICE professionals discovered two minor misdemeanors on his record, one of which had been expunged. All of that qualified him for deportation.

Guess being a model is more "Einstein-like" than being a doctor, at least in the world of Donald Trump.

Makes about as much sense as spending money on a giant wall that will be useless instead of fixing this nation's crumbling infrastructure.
