President Trump's ridiculous effort to explain away his comment at that crazy Helsinki news conference with Putin by claiming he meant to say "wouldn't" instead of "would" when responding to a question about whether he thinks Russia interfered with the 2016 presidential election made me think.
What if other famous and/or important statements had simply been altered by adding a simple contraction or changing just one word like Trump tried to do?
I can hear Richard Nixon now: "I am a crook!"
Or Bill Clinton: "I did have sexual relations with that woman."
Or, what if Meat Loaf changed his lyrics to say "I won't do anything for love, but I will do that...?"
History would be changed.
Richard Nixon would have spared Congress and the country the trauma of his pending impeachment and would have gone directly to jail.
Bill Clinton would have been cheered by other wife cheaters, but would have been kicked out of the bedroom by Hillary. And the holier-than-thou members of the Senate might actually have followed his impeachment by the House of Representatives and convicted him, tossing him out on his butt.
And Meat Loaf's probably wouldn't have had much of a hit. Or would he?
Or, what if when you walked down the aisle and the minister, priest, rabbi or whatever asked if you would take this woman to be your wife or this man to be your husband you said, "I don't?" Or, "I won't."
Might have spared you a divorce.
