The Russian military escalation, launched by Vladimir Putin over the last week, has now resulted in full invasion this morning. When it comes to supporting American policy against his lord and master, Donald Trump expects GOP voters to throw their loyalty behind a dictator instead of the American President.
And they call themselves “patriots”.
Trump’s response, which was all too predictable, was to call Putin a genius. By saying Putin had the right to recognize the separatist controlled regions of Ukraine and send in the military on a “peacekeeping” operation, Trump tipped his hand on what his policy would be if he should regain the Presidency in 2024. We all know his platform has one objective – revenge against his enemies.
Putin is setting the precedent for Trump to do this here in 2024. He will use the U.S. military to invade Democratic run states on the pretext that because Republicans live there and can’t get control he would need to send “peacekeeping” forces into these states.
Trump needs a GOP controlled Congress to make his dream of eliminating Democrats, and anyone who opposes him, a reality. This year’s mid-term elections are critical to preserving our Democracy and preventing Trump or someone worsefrom destroying America should the Democrats legitimately lose the Presidency in 2024.
GOP is Split
On Wednesday night Trump called into his favorite “news” network to comment on a potential Russian invasion of Ukraine. The host Laura Ingraham wanted to talk about how weak the United States is with Biden in charge. Trump changed the subject to how Putin is doing this as a result of the “rigged election” in 2020.
Even in a time of global crisis, it’s all about him and he will grind on that election loss until the day he dies.
Calling Biden weak against Russia is the only talking point of Trump’s sycophants. No solutions, just blame. This is not surprising as they have had no solutions to ongoing racial and other issues here since Trump took over the GOP.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) claim Joe Biden is weak and “feckless”. Cruz, Rubio, and others in the GOP who have sworn an oath to support and defend Donald Trump over the interests of the United States, want us to believe that this would never have happened under Trump. After all Putin did nothing in those four years Trump was President.
Doesn’t that prove it?
Not really.
Putin is a lot smarter than Trump and is willing to play the long game. He knew that Trump lost control of Congress in 2018 and as we were, and still are, a Democracy working under the guidelines of the U. S. Constitution, the time wasn’t quite right yet to make his move to re-form the USSR.
When Trump lost and was unable to overturn the election by sending his mob to the Capitol on January 6, Putin knew it was time to try to further split the U.S. and to break our new President Joe Biden. He also knew that Trump and his supporters in the GOP would side with him instead of working with Biden to stop him. Who doesn’t believe Trump is still in regular contact with Putin?
Unfortunately, Ukraine is paying the price for Trump’s overwhelming desire to be the first American Dictator.
Not all of the GOP are behind Trump and his remarks that Putin is justified in invading a European country. Let’s be clear, the GOP has every right to question the Biden plan to stop Russia by saying what he has done so far is not enough. Even Democrats question why he wasn’t more aggressive or why he didn’t do something sooner. These are legitimate discussions; however, pointing fingers and armchair quarterbacking what should have been done will not resolve this issue.
While some in the GOP ask why they should care about Ukraine, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is working with Democrats in Congress and our NATO allies to fully support Ukraine against Russia. Love or hate Sen. Graham, he knows what is at stake here and, unlike Cruz and Rubio he is working to help bring Putin to his knees.
Tucker Carlson Loves Dictators
Fox “News” host Tucker Carlson continues to display his ignorance for everyone to see. This is the man who fawned over the Hungarian dictator Viktor Orbán in an interview last year so it was no surprise that he is calling for full support of Putin. Carlson says that if Putin hasn’t done anything to you personally, like call you a racist or eat your dog, you have no reason to hate him.
Carlson’s “logic” in supporting Putin completely ignores what will happen should this invasion be successful and start full scale war between the two countries. The right-wing media and Trump are always squawking about the importance of the economy; however, they don’t educate their voters on what that term actually means. They have led them to believe it is all about jobs in the U.S. and how well the stock market is doing. Then they ignore how well the actual economy is doing under Joe Biden. War in Ukraine will most definitely affect all Americans. And it will be economic.
Tucker Carlson and some in the GOP want a war to destroy the economy and then blame Joe Biden so they can get the votes to install a dictatorship here. They need to continue to portray Biden and the Democrats as the enemy and promote our “friend” Vladimir Putin.
Don’t look behind the (iron) curtain, there’s nothing to see there.
Make no mistake every American should be taking an interest in what is happening in Ukraine. Real patriots support the President in a time of crisis. They don’t cheer on our enemies to try to bring him down for a power grab at the polls. We need to put our faith in Joe Biden and our NATO allies. Now is not the time for apathy.
Mid-term elections usually have a low turnout, but this year is critical to keep our fragile Democracy intact. Everyone needs to get out and vote this November. If you have to, think of it as voting to keep Putin out of America in 2024.
