NFN Poll: No Schiff Censure

Not Fake News readers who responded to last week's Snap Poll said in no uncertain terms that Congress should not censure Rep. Adam Schiff for his handling of the Trump impeachment inquiry.

The vote was 36-6 opposing censure, as sought by Republican allies of President Trump who have complained about the process of the inquiry led by the House Intelligence Committee chair, rather than strongly defending Trump's innocence.

House Democrats said today a vote will be held later this week, probably Thursday, on procedures that could lead to Trump's impeachment by the House of Representatives.

The vote will mark a new phase in the impeachment process, which so far has involved a series of closed-door depositions. Democrats said the resolution would establish rules for public hearings, provide due process rights for the White House and allow information to be transferred to the committee that would ultimately consider the articles of impeachment.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in a letter to lawmakers, said the vote is needed "to eliminate any doubt as to whether the Trump administration may withhold documents, prevent witness testimony, disregard duly authorized subpoenas, or continue obstructing the House of Representatives."

"This resolution establishes the procedure for hearings that are open to the American people, authorizes the disclosure of deposition transcripts, outlines procedures to transfer evidence to the Judiciary Committee as it considers potential articles of impeachment, and sets forth due process rights for the President and his Counsel," the letter said.

Led by Trump, Republicans have complained about the process being pursued by House Democrats, contending that they have been shut out of the process and that Trump is being unfairly treated.
